We apply UK data protection law, the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, to the personal data of people in the UK who use this site.

What we process and why

You can read every page on this site without giving us your name, email address or phone number. The site has no calculator and no quote form.

Technical data. Our hosting provider processes your IP address and browser information to deliver the pages and protect the site against abuse. We do not use third-party advertising pixels.

Visit counts, without cookies. Whatever you choose on our cookie banner, each page you open sends our server a short notice, without cookies or any identifier. It says only whether the page started a visit and, if so, which site sent you to us, such as a search engine. We keep only daily totals for the whole site (visits, visits from search engines and pages viewed), nothing that identifies you or your browser.

Google Analytics, only if you accept it. If you choose "Accept all" on our cookie banner, Google Analytics records the pages you view; how far you scroll on guides and brand reviews; clicks on links to other websites and on downloads; your type of device and browser; and your approximate location, which it works out from your IP address. It links these to a random identifier stored in the `_ga` cookie. It never receives your name, email address or phone number.

Emails you send us. When you write to info@heatpumpreport.co.uk, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and what you write.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To deliver the pages and protect the site against abuse, based on our legitimate interest in keeping the service available and secure.
  • To count visits and pages viewed without cookies, so that we know how many people use the site, based on our legitimate interest in measuring how it is used. We keep only daily totals, which identify no one.
  • To measure with Google Analytics how the site is used, so that we can improve our guides. The lawful basis is your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you give by choosing "Accept all" on our cookie banner. You can withdraw it at any time through the "Cookie preferences" link at the foot of each page; Google Analytics then stops and we delete its cookies. Withdrawing doesn't affect measurement made before.
  • To answer your emails and correct our pages when you report a mistake, based on our legitimate interest in replying to you and keeping our guides accurate.
  • To meet our legal obligations and, where necessary, to establish or defend legal claims.

Quote requests

You can't ask installers for a price through this site, and we pass no personal data to installers. Before quote requests open here, we will update this notice to say what data a request needs, who receives it, on what lawful basis and for how long we keep it.

Who receives your data

Service providers we use:

  • Cloudflare, which hosts the site and its database and protects the site against abuse;
  • our email forwarding and mailbox providers, which deliver and store the messages you send to info@heatpumpreport.co.uk;
  • Google LLC, which provides Google Analytics to us as our processor, only if you accept it on our cookie banner. Google signals is switched off, and our Google Analytics is not linked to any advertising account. Google explains its part on its own website, on the page "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services".

We do not sell your data and we do not pass it to anyone for their advertising.

Transfers outside the UK

Kind Services is based in the United States, so your data is handled by a company outside the UK. Google LLC, which provides Google Analytics, is in the United States, and Cloudflare and Google may also process other data there. For those two companies, we rely on the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which both have joined; where Google does not rely on it, Google uses standard contractual clauses. Google states that Google Analytics does not log or store the IP addresses of visitors in the UK. Messages to info@heatpumpreport.co.uk are forwarded by ImprovMX to the mailbox of Kind Services; where these email providers process data, and the safeguard we rely on, is to follow.

How long we keep it

  • Google Analytics data: Google Analytics keeps the data linked to your browser's identifier for 14 months from when it is collected and then deletes it. Our reports keep totals that no longer identify a browser, such as the number of visits to a page. The `_ga` cookies expire 13 months after they are set; later visits don't extend them.
  • Visit counts: daily totals for the whole site, which contain no personal data.
  • Emails you send us: for as long as we need them to answer you, or to deal with a correction you reported.
  • Technical security data: only for the short time needed to protect the service.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict how we use it and to receive a copy in a portable format. You can object to any use based on our legitimate interests. You can withdraw your consent to Google Analytics at any time through "Cookie preferences".

To use any of these rights, email info@heatpumpreport.co.uk. We reply within one month. We may extend this by up to two months for complex or numerous requests; if we do, we will tell you why within the first month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to us by email or, once it is published above, by post to our postal address; we acknowledge complaints within 30 days. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, through its website, ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113. The ICO recommends raising your concern with us first.

Cookies and storage on your device

We store what the site needs to work, plus the Google Analytics cookies only if you accept them on our cookie banner:

  • a cookie called `zonne_tracking_consent`, which records your choice on our cookie banner, for 6 months;
  • if you choose "Accept all", the Google Analytics cookies `_ga` and `_ga_` followed by a code for our site, which hold a random identifier and your current visit, for 13 months from when they are set. If you choose "Necessary only", Google Analytics doesn't load, and if you switch to it later, we delete these cookies.

We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not use your browser's local storage.

Changes

If we change how we handle data, we update this page and the date at the top.
