About us
Who runs this site, how it is funded and how to reach us.
Heat Pump Report publishes guides for people in the UK who are thinking about replacing a gas or oil boiler with a heat pump. We explain what an installation costs, which grant applies in your nation, what a heat pump uses to run and what to check on a quote, so you can talk to installers knowing what a complete offer looks like. The site is run by Kind Services, a company based in the United States, and today no manufacturer or installer pays us.
Who we are
Our pages are published under the name of the Heat Pump Report editorial team. We don't invent authors or reviewers, and we don't present anyone as a heating engineer or installer who has checked a page for us.
We write for homeowners: people in houses and bungalows who heat with a combi or system boiler, or with oil off the gas grid, and want to know whether a heat pump suits their home before they ask for quotes.

What you'll find here
- Guides to heat pump costs, grants, running costs, radiators, hot-water cylinders, noise, planning and the rules in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Figures that change, such as the Ofgem price cap, are given with their dates.
- Brand reviews of heat pump makers that sell in the UK, written from the manufacturers' UK datasheets, the MCS product directory and their UK warranty terms.
- A comparison of air source heat pumps that scores one model per brand on published data, with the criteria and weights on the page.
How we're funded
Heat Pump Report is free to read and is funded today by its operator, Kind Services. No manufacturer or installer pays us.
How we plan to earn. Quote requests to installers aren't open on the site. Later, homeowners will be able to ask installers for a price here, and the installers will pay us for those requests. Only the installer or installers you choose will then receive your details, the request will be free and without obligation for you, and we can't promise whether, when or how many installers reply. Before the first paid request goes through, we will say so on our editorial method page.
What is never paid for. Neither manufacturers nor installers pay to appear in our comparison, to move up it or to change a brand review.
What we don't do
We don't install heat pumps or sell equipment. We test nothing: no laboratory runs, home visits, noise measurements or inspections of installers' work. We give no individual tax, legal or financial advice. Our worked examples use example homes, not yours: they are not quotes, and they don't replace the room-by-room heat-loss calculation an installer makes for your home. A brand review means the brand sells heat pumps in the UK, not that it suits your house.
How we write and check our pages
Each rule, rate and official figure comes from a primary source: legislation, government departments, Ofgem, MCS, Home Energy Scotland and manufacturers' UK documents. Our own assumptions, such as the efficiency of the boiler in our example homes, are labelled as ours. Drafts are written with software, including AI language models, from a record of every fact the page uses and its source. Separate review passes then check the facts and sums, UK advertising and consumer rules, and whether the page answers your question clearly, and nothing goes live until the publisher approves it. Our editorial method describes each step, our example homes, how the comparison is scored and how we correct mistakes.
Your decision stays yours
A heat pump is a large purchase that changes how your home is heated for many years. Keep the installer's heat-loss figures, the design flow temperature, the exact models, the itemised price and the written warranties, and compare quotes that cover the same work. Our guide to choosing an MCS installer explains what to check before you sign.
